Founded by Ric Newell in 1997, The Wreck Stopper offers defensive driving safety solutions to individuals, corporations, municipalities, and schools. As a licensed defensive driving instructor, Ric brings his diverse and unique talents to the classroom. He has performed all over the southwest as a stand-up comedian, stage actor, and radio personality. With many years in newspaper advertising, Ric adds solid business experience to his mix of talents.

During his defensive driving safety classes, Ric perfectly balances his comedy routine with the life-and-death seriousness of the risks we all face on the road. Ric makes his students think about their driving habits in a way that keeps them riveted on the subject in class, and afterwards.

Ric has taught over 500 Texas Education Agency-approved defensive driving classes. He is licensed by the state of Texas as a Driving Safety Instructor/Trainer. In a corporate environment, Ric has worked with companies such as Exxon, DFW Airport, The Burlington Northern and Santa Fe Railway Company, and Mitchell Energy. In a municipal setting, he has worked with police and employees of Rowlett and Haltom City. In a church setting, he has worked with numerous denominations. He is a frequent speaker at business, service, and social groups, and has delivered motivational speeches to schools.

Ric has produced, written, and performed his own shows and workshops in many settings, from the top comedy clubs to newspaper advertising workshops. He has been featured in an article in the Arlington Morning News. Ric is a graduate of Columbia School of Broadcasting and is a member of the National Speakers Association. He is the National Speakers Association of North Texas 2004-2005 Member of the Year.
