Learning to Love Driving

The first step in becoming a safe driver is to begin to have fun driving again. Remember when you first got you license and the excitement you felt when you started off on that first drive as a licensed driver? If you will take that excitement and combine it with the knowledge and skills you have now as a seasoned driver, you will immediately become a safer driver. It is impossible for you to have fun doing anything without paying attention to it.

On your first time in Colorado on a mountain road, you knew it was dangerous, and you knew it was scary. After that first curve, didn’t you start enjoying the driving? You were concentrating, feeling the road and having a ball. Learn to have fun as you drive. Don’t let other drivers ruin your day. You can’t control their behavior, but you can darn sure control yours.

In our workaday world, always running late and never having enough time to accomplish what we want, it’s tough to see the joy in driving. The bad news is being busy will never change. The good news is driving can be enjoyable, and frankly, a brief respite in our lives, if we will let it. You have to get from point A to point B; why not try doing it with a smile on your face? Heavy traffic is the same for all of us. It’s just a question of how you choose to handle it.
